Unlocking the Power of Utilization in Change Work
Taught By Bill O'Hanlon
One of the many things that inspired Bill O'Hanlon when he was studying with the late psychiatrist, Milton Erickson, was how Dr. Erickson did not approach people from the basis of pathology, but of human potential. Bill learned an approach to change work that saw people’s pathologies and quirks as elements that could be harnessed and turned in the direction of positive change and healing. Dr. Erickson called this approach "utilization." Utilization is a powerful technique that enables counselors, psychotherapists, and other helpers to leverage their clients' unique abilities, resources, and experiences to foster change and healing. By incorporating this approach, helping professionals can create personalized, transformative interventions that resonate with clients and support their growth. So join Bill O'Hanlon in the 1 hour continuing education (CE) mini-course as he unpacks some of the potential of therapeutic utilization.
- Understand the foundations of utilization in psychotherapy/change work, including the philosophy, principles, and techniques underlying this innovative approach.
- Learn ways how to identify and utilize a client's individual strengths, resources, and experiences within the change work process to facilitate meaningful growth and thriving.
- Develop skills to effectively adapt and apply the Ericksonian/Solution-Oriented approach utilization to a wide range of clients and/or clinical situations, enhancing your therapeutic repertoire and improving client outcomes.
